By now I’m sure you’ve heard that gold is back.

How can you get in style without doing a total remodel and breaking the bank? The same way you update your wardrobe by just adding pieces of gold jewelry.

Gold accessories are the jewelry for your décor. A strategically placed gold dish, bowl, or golden nugget from Nuggets by Grant on the coffee or side table can really speak volumes. Just make sure you remove your silver accessories from the room. You can always recycle them back into your décor during the warmer seasons.

Want to get really affordable. A little DIY can do wonders. Wrap 2-3 hard covered books in gold paper and stack them on the coffee table. Top them off with a clear candlestick or glass sphere.

Grab the spray paint and 2’ to 3’ tall bare tree branches, easy to find this time of the year, and paint them gold. Place them in a white or clear vase and place them on a sideboard or entryway table, any space that can handle the height of your new gold floral arrangement. As long as you have the spray paint, consider painting a wastebasket for the powder room or wicker basket for magazines.

Now I think it is important that I remind you that when I’m talking about gold, it’s not brass. Today’s gold a softer gold leafed, softer, mate finish. It can have a little shine to it but it certainly isn’t brass, it’s gold. Big difference. So don’t even think about recycling those old brass accessories.

Okay now if you’re ready to really cash into the gold rush. Think about purchasing a new gold lamp. Lamps are the center of attention for any room because they are the light source. They automatically draw attention to themselves so you can make a big gold statement by just spending a couple a hundred dollars.

Artwork is a little more expensive investment. Look for artwork that is framed in a simple gold frame. Avoid ornate, baroque gold frames. Less is more when it comes to frames. If you have a piece of art that you love simply have it reframed.

Mirrors are another great source for introducing gold into your décor. Sunburst style mirrors are still very vogue. Round is more chic than rectangular. Again be purposefully when buying and hanging mirrors. They need to be the right size for the space and hung at a level that reflects a becoming image. Don’t lean a mirror on the fireplace mantel because all it does is reflect a boring ceiling. Hang it instead.

When you are serious about redecorating and investing in new furniture be sure to check out furnishing with gold fabrics, trims and golden wood finishes. Updating and refreshing your décor can be simple or elaborate, the trick is as simple as embracing today’s new golden tones.
